     Every year tourists come from all over the world to
Chichen Itza in the jungles of Mexico's Yucatan
Peninsula to witness a strange event. At 3:00 pm on the
Spring and Autumn equinoxes the play of light and
shadow form a serpent's body down the North staircase
of the Pyramid of Kukulcan.

  When you see the serpent undulating down the
stairway essentially what your are seeing is the serpent
symbolically coming out of the sky going to the plane of
existence on the earth then at the end of the day entering
into the earth.

  Some people believe the serpent is a warning one of
several the Maya have passed to us of a catastrophic
event that is about to occur. Many believe it is
Kukulcan's warning of the end of the world. In Mayan
philosophy the end of the world wasn't a vague abstract
notion but rather a real and specific happening.

  The entire structure of the Pyramid of Kukulcan is
actually a three dimension calendar. It has four sides
with 91 steps on each side and a platform on top which
equals 365 days of the year.

                           Who was Kukulcan?

  The Maya described Kukulcan as a tall Caucasian
man with long flowing silky white hair and beard with
blazing deep blue eyes. He was said to have an
elongated skull. For some reason he left Chichen Itza
around 1000 A.D. and returned to the sea where some
researchers believe he came. Before leaving he
promised his people that he would eventually return but
he never did.

                   Mayan Doomsday Prophecy

  When the Maya speak of doomsday what they are
essentially talking about is the full destruction of the
world and the inhabitants of the world.

  The Maya priesthood prophesied that the earth will
come to an end on 13 Baktun on their long count
calendar. This date translates to the 21st of December
2012. The date is unlikely to be arbitrary, rather the
cosmologists probably and purposely calculated it
using their advanced knowledge of astronomy.

  The Maya prophecy of 2012 is anchored to an
astrological alignment. In December of 2012 the
winter solstice sun will be lining up with the center of
our Milky Way Galaxy. This is a very rare cosmic
alignment that happens only every 25,800 years.

  We are currently in the Katun 4 cycle which runs
from 1993 to 2012 and is prophesied as a time of great
change. The supreme deity of the Maya will return to
earth during this period heralding a start of a new age.
